Chocolate Bread Pudding (Challah or Babka)

INGREDIENTS

  1. Approx 4.5-5 cups leftover babka or challah bread. Tear into medium-sized pieces.

  2. 2 cups whole fat chocolate milk

  3. 1/2 cup half & half

  4. 3 large eggs

  5. 1/8 cup (25g) sugar

  6. 1/2 teaspoon real vanilla extract (not vanilla flavor)

  7. A pinch of salt

  8. Unsalted butter for greasing the baking dish.

  9. Chocolate Syrup to drizzle

  10. Caramel sauce to drizzle

INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees after the dish has been soaking for about 30 minutes before baking.

  2. Rub about a tablespoon of butter in a 9×13 casserole baking dish. Then, spread out the babka pieces, covering the entire bottom.

  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the sugar, milk, half & half, eggs, salt, and vanilla extract.

  4. Pour the milk mixture over the babka pieces making sure to coat each piece. Gently press the bread down.

  5. Cover and let the bread soak up the milk mixture for 30 minutes.

  6. Bake uncovered at 350 for about 40-45 min. You know it’s done when the edges and top pieces of bread sticking up are slightly brown and the bread pudding wobbles a little.

  7. Let it cool for about 15 minutes and then slice, drizzle with chocolate syrup and enjoy.
